Commercial builder David Steens and his wife Jenny built the stunning home at 69 Esplanade, Nedlandsfor their family of three sports-mad boys.
The Steens created a contemporary tri-level residence and its genius is its large open floor plan which maximises the river view which is one of its best features of the house.
The house, which sits directly opposite the Charles Court Reserve, has one of Perth’s most prestigious Swan River addresses.
The five bedroom home is being marketed by Jody Fewster of Ray White Cottesloe | Mosman Park with an expressions of interest campaign closing on April 4, ahead of Easter.
“It’s a sophisticated and highly functional house, perfect for a family.”
The Steens have downsized into Cottesloe as their boys have all left home.
The architectural masterpiece has a sleek monochromatic palette that will complement any decor, with the perfect balance of minimalist landscaping and textural elements, including concrete and timber panelling.
It has been expertly designed to maximise both its orientation on the massive block and the absolute river and parklands vista.
The phenomenal attention to detail is equally as impressive, from the internal staircase crafted from one piece of concrete to the jarrah wall panelling created from reclaimed timber from the old Bunbury Jetty.
The Steens have owned the address since 2000, and built the current house six years ago. “Because we’d lived here for 14 years before we built, we knew exactly where the sun comes up and where it goes down and how to maximise the orientation of the house on the block so we’re protected from the afternoon sea breezes,” Mr Steens said.
“It is also an L shaped house so everyone gets a view, every room bar one. It’s also been a party house, a fun house. We’ve entertained a lot here with our three sons and their friends. We’d go fishing and come back with lots of crayfish and have BBQs and the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club and Nedlands Rugby Club are just a short walk away too.”
The huge family/games room includes a bar with twin wine fridges, built-in cabinets and display shelving, and a wall-mounted TV and Sonos bar.
The ground level features a massive supersized garage for up to six vehicles, with further secure parking in the driveway behind the electric gate.
There’s also a two-bedroom, two-bathroom ‘retreat’ with a generous living area and provisions for a kitchenette, making it ideal for fully self-contained accommodation for guests or inter-generational living.
The main entrance is on the second level, where full-height, commercial-grade sliding doors seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor living areas.
On the top level the main living area ceiling rakes upwards to accentuate the expansive park and river vista.
A perfect touch is the polished concrete with economical gas underfloor heating and a double-sided wood fire which are thoughtful features you’ll appreciate during the cooler months.
The main bedroom suite provides the ultimate parents’ retreat, and one of Mr Steen’s personal touches is the private glass topped balcony so you can see the view while lying in bed!
Lifestyle amenities such as Nedlands Golf Club and Royal Perth Yacht Club and restaurants are on your doorstep, along with kilometres of picturesque riverside walking trails and beautiful Kings Park and Botanic Gardens. Additionally, the low-maintenance gardens offer a lock-and-leave convenience that frequent travellers will appreciate.
